My new website is a lot different from any of my previous adventures into website design and development; and has pushed me both as a designer and as a developer. This is all mostly HTML and CSS with the help of a couple of images per page.
The previous version of my personal website was supposed to be like this one. A selection of stories, entries etc all with a different theme. The pages are designed separately. The only thing that is constant throughout this website is the bar with my name on it.
I have wanted to do a website like this for quite some time now, and had attempted it with my previous website, but was not successful. This time around is different, I'm working solely with flat files instead of ExpressionEngine. This is nothing to do with EE, it's a great product; it's just not the right tool for this project.
The main reason for doing this is to be different, and to challenge myself. If I can write a number of good articles and anything else I want to put on here, and create a new design for the page - no matter how primitive it may be - I have achieved something. I do not claim to be a designer, and most of this site has been designed directly in FireFox, showing you my developer roots. I just hope I can pull this off.
I'm no Dustin Curtis so don't expect amazingly visually appealing articles - the image above is about as artistic as this site will get. I'm primarily a backend developer and this is just a fun and great way for me to play with the browser a little. Take a look at my other journal entries here to see some of the things I have already created, and get an idea as to what I might be doing with this site in the future. At some point I'll use a font other than Georgia too. ;)
